Stylish Paving Stones (Interlock)
Driveways finished with paving stones, commonly called interlock, are more expensive to install initially, but will save you money down the road.
If you decide to go for this type of material, you will have peace of mind for many years, as interlock can last up to three decades.
One of interlock’s advantages is that you can remove and replace stones as needed, if they shift or split over time, for example. You can also play with textures to create different effects and have a driveway that stands out from those of neighbouring houses. An interlock driveway will elevate the look of any residence.
Interlock paving is comprised of sand, cement, and aggregate. In the past, ordinary sand was used, but yielded mixed results with grass and sand between the stones. Today, thanks to polymer sand, this is no longer an issue.
The cost: You should expect to pay between $14.50 and $24 per square feet for an interlock driveway, plus the cost of the excavation work.
